The American Association of Law Libraries (Legal History and Rare Books Section), in cooperation with Gale Cengage Learning, announces the second annual Morris L. Cohen Student Essay Competition Currently enrolled students attending accredited graduate programs in library science, law, history, or related subjects are eligible to enter the competition. Students may be enrolled either full- or part-time. The winner will receive $500 and up to $1000 to fund a trip to the 2010 AALL Annual Meeting in Denver. Papers must be submitted by April 15; the winner will be announced by May 15. More complete information is available at the Legal History and Rare Books webite

The Freedom to Read Foundation is pleased to announce that it is offering free one-year memberships to students graduating from ALA-accredited MLS and MLIS programs and from school library media programs recognized by the American Association of School Librarians that are part of an educational unit accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE). Students whose graduation date is August 1, 2009 or later can download the membership form (pdf/Word) and mail, fax, or email it to the Freedom to Read Foundation.
