University Archives Assistantship

The William Davis Melton Graduate Assistantship at the University of
South Carolina Archives is available in the fall of 2008 for a Library,
Public History, or History graduate student.

The Melton Assistantship involves a wide variety of duties, including
reference, filling copy orders, processing of collections, digitization
of collection materials, and assisting in the research and production of
exhibits relating to University and South Carolina history. You must be
able to lift boxes weighing 30-40 lbs. The majority of the collections
are 20th century and include visual materials, correspondence, and
publications.

As part of I-COMM Week, March 30 - April 3, Dr. Tywanna Whorley, Processing Archivist of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Archive at Howard Gotlieb Archival Research Center at Boston University will be giving a presentation about her work with the Dr. King papers. Presentation title: The Measure of a Man: Redefining Martin Luther King, Jr. through His Papers Date: Thursday, April 2Time: 6:00-7:00 p.m. Location: Coliseum Room 3020A Professor Whorley has taught archival access and advocacy, and management of records and information resources in the Graduate School of Library and Information Science at Simmons College in Boston, MA.
