Job Description:Director, ChesterCounty Library, SC. The Board of Trustees is seeking an enthusiastic, energetic person to lead a three branch library system with a 14 person staff. Chester is a rural community, three hours from the beaches and two from the mountains.Charlotte, NC and Columbia, SC are less than an hour away.
Qualifications: ALA/MLS, with 4 years post MLA experience in a public library and one year administrative/supervisory level duties. Have knowledge of library management, automation, electronic serves/ resources, budgeting and finances.Strong leadership and public relation skills are essential.Will need SC Public Library Certification and a SC driver’s license.
Salary:$45,000-$55,000, with good benefits.

Spring 2008 Social and Organizational Informatics 778 Seminar in Information Science This course examines the various needs, uses, and consequences of information in organizational contexts. It offers an introduction to the inter-relationship between information, technology, and social behavior f rom an interdisciplinary perspective. We will examine, through active inquiry-based activities, in-depth discussion, and readings, the question of “How do people relate to, seek, and use information?” Topics include organizational theory and behavior and knowledge and information management with a focus on understanding how to foster innovation in an organizational setting. Course is applicable to those pursuing careers in public, academic, and special library and information settings. The ERMD Student Award recognizes a student who is especially interested in pursuing a career as an information professional dealing with environment and resource management issues. The award is $500.00, plus a $750 reimbursement award if the student comes to the SLA annual meeting in New Orleans. The student must be enrolled in an ALA accredited master's degree program. This award is meant to promote both current and future involvement in and commitment to the library and information science profession prior to, during, and after the master's program. To be considered for the award, a student must be an SLA member and write a 300-500 word essay describing his or her interest in the issues facing information professionals in the environment and natural resources fields. Essays should be labeled with the student's name, contact information, and educational institution. Deadline for receiving submissions is March 15, 2010.
