It's that time of year again, folks!  LISSA’s wildly popular international calendar sensation, The Mildly Attractive Men of SLIS, is now in its SIXTH year!  Last year we catered to your artistic side with Master Pieces, our interpretations of some of the greatest artistic works in the world featuring  your favorite students from the School of Library and Information Science at the University of South Carolina. This year, the Library and Information Science Student Association (LISSA) returns to its homage to pop culture with Action Movies, our take on some of the best classic flicks featuring a bunch of mildly attractive guy-brarians channeling their inner action heroes!  What better way to while away those long hours stuck in your cubicle? 

But wait!  We've added even more super-deluxe features!  Do you find yourself wondering when the next library-related state conference or national conference begins? We’ve thought of that! This hot-off-the-presses calendar has many conferences listed to help you plan your next big professional development event.

All proceeds from calendar sales directly support SLIS student involvement in and attendance at many of these same professional conferences, assuring you a chance to meet a mildly attractive guy-brarian from SLIS in person. 

These calendars make excellent holiday stocking stuffers and desk-toppers, so please share this link with your friends and family! Quantities are limited and hand packaged so allow a few days extra for delivery.

 Calendars are $15 each ($19 each for calendars that are mailed), and are available in Davis College, through any LISSA officer, or by sending a check made payable to LISSA to:

ERMD Student Award

The ERMD Student Award recognizes a student who is especially interested in pursuing a career as an information professional dealing with environment and resource management issues. The award is $500.00, plus a $750 reimbursement award if the student comes to the SLA annual meeting in New Orleans. The student must be enrolled in an ALA accredited master's degree program. This award is meant to promote both current and future involvement in and commitment to the library and information science profession prior to, during, and after the master's program. To be considered for the award, a student must be an SLA member and write a 300-500 word essay describing his or her interest in the issues facing information professionals in the environment and natural resources fields. Essays should be labeled with the student's name, contact information, and educational institution. Deadline for receiving submissions is March 15, 2010.
