LISSA Website Update

The LISSA webpage has been dead for the last few months. A busy fall semester gave way to a busy spring and the LISSA website fell into disuse. The page is sporting a different take on a new logo previously designed by the talented John Quirk (who is also a recent graduate). The officer directory has also been updated for the 2011-2012 school year. We will be changing things all summer and semester long, so keep checking back for updates here . If you have any questions, comments, or input please contact us at slis_lissa@yahoo.com -Andrew

Ace that Interview! Webinar

Tonight I attended a great presentation titled "Ace that Interview!" presented by the Public Library Section of SCLA and LISSA. We heard expert advice on preparing for an interview from Caroline Hipp (RCPL, Extension Services Manager), Roberta Bibbins (Orangeburg County Library, Director), and Jennifer Wishart (RCPL, Job Readiness Trainer). We had a few technical difficulties at the beginning of the session in which our internet connection was lost and the session re-started. Therefore, the recording starts a few minutes into the presentation, but don't worry the majority is included. Have a listen and hopefully learn some new things as you prepare for your job search. http://breeze.sc.edu/p94144442/

Weekend Activities

It's only Wednesday but I'm already thinking about the weekend.  Fortunately there are a lot of great things to look forward to whether you're here in Columbia or part of a cohort. Friday February 18th Here in Columbia we will be having a potluck in the student lounge in the basement of Davis College at 6pm. If you haven't yet given your RSVP (which you should have by now!) email Kelly to let her know that you're attending and what you're bringing. I'd also recommend bringing some of your Tupperware so that you can bring home a variety of the leftovers.  I mean c'mon, one person isn't going to want to take ALL of their brownies home, right? Our Charleston Cohort is also having a food-related activity as they meet on Friday the 18th at Taco Boy at 7pm.  Lisa will be organizing the event so you can ask for her table if you make it there. Saturday February 19th Jason Broughton from the State Library will be hosting a resume workshop in Davis.  F...

Adam Haigh: LISSA Colloquium recording

Adam Haigh, a librarian of Lander Unviersity and the President Elect of the South Carolina Library Association, came to talk to LISSA last night about the importance of professional associations and share his experiences with us about what happens after library school! Here is the link to the recording of the colloquium: http://breeze.sc.edu/p20431849/ Do note that it's a little jumpy at parts... we were trying out a new webcam tonight and are working out the kinks.
