I just wanted to pass along this TedTalks (which I happen to be addicted to!) from Jay Walker , speaking about the Library of Human Imagination. He talks about some different items in the museum (some space stuff, a big bible, you know) and then shows photos of the inside of the museum.... and wow! This is definitely something worth watching... and it is not that long anyways! -Meredith

If you missed the September colloquium, then you missed an awesome opportunity to hear techniques for getting your (future) archive or library catalog extra internet attention. In the past few years, Brian Cuthrell has been working to bring more attention to USC's awesome South Caroliniana library. Perhaps his biggest suggestion is to piggy-back on a larger/related collection. He showed examples from the South Caroliniana catalog of links to fellow academic archives (Duke University) and local resources (Lowcountry Digital Library). Brian explained how these links create a greater web experience for patrons and… it just makes logical sense to create a link between two university catalogs if each has a document related to a specific South Carolina army base, for example. Ah the start of the school year... classes are beginning to pick up... the cool breeze is visiting us every so often. This means that a new academic year is up and running... and LISSA is too! We have a lot of exciting things happening this year. I believe that I can speak for all the officers when I say- We want LISSA to provide fun opportunities to enrich your LIS program! We are adding lots of volunteering days as well as professional development events. Anywho, here is what we discussed in the first meeting.... time to start getting involved: VOLUNTEERING There is a great volunteer opportunity to work with the Cure4Kids website. Dorothy Mays, from St. Jude's hospital, needs people to classify seminars. Dorothy is calling for volunteers to help with her classification project of the special topic seminars on the Cure4Kids website. The LISSA webpage has been dead for the last few months. A busy fall semester gave way to a busy spring and the LISSA website fell into disuse. The page is sporting a different take on a new logo previously designed by the talented John Quirk (who is also a recent graduate). The officer directory has also been updated for the 2011-2012 school year. We will be changing things all summer and semester long, so keep checking back for updates here . Tonight I attended a great presentation titled "Ace that Interview!" presented by the Public Library Section of SCLA and LISSA. We heard expert advice on preparing for an interview from Caroline Hipp (RCPL, Extension Services Manager), Roberta Bibbins (Orangeburg County Library, Director), and Jennifer Wishart (RCPL, Job Readiness Trainer). We had a few technical difficulties at the beginning of the session in which our internet connection was lost and the session re-started. Therefore, the recording starts a few minutes into the presentation, but don't worry the majority is included.
