Temporary, Part-Time (16-20 hrs per week for 6 weeks)

Job Location: The State Newspaper Library, 1401 Shop Road, Columbia

Work Days and Hours: Negotiable

Pay: $8 per hour

Job Requirements:
1. Type 45 wpm
2. Able to work with minimal supervision
3. Familiar with database creation and use

Description of Duties:
1. Learn how to use portions of the xtPDF extraction program and the
SAVE newspaper library system.
2. Access and verify that the complete text of The State newspaper is
available in the online database.
3. Make corrections to the database where necessary.
4. Report problems with the database to the newspaper librarian.
5. Other duties as needed.

ERMD Student Award

The ERMD Student Award recognizes a student who is especially interested in pursuing a career as an information professional dealing with environment and resource management issues. The award is $500.00, plus a $750 reimbursement award if the student comes to the SLA annual meeting in New Orleans. The student must be enrolled in an ALA accredited master's degree program. This award is meant to promote both current and future involvement in and commitment to the library and information science profession prior to, during, and after the master's program. To be considered for the award, a student must be an SLA member and write a 300-500 word essay describing his or her interest in the issues facing information professionals in the environment and natural resources fields. Essays should be labeled with the student's name, contact information, and educational institution. Deadline for receiving submissions is March 15, 2010.
