DEAF CULTURE LINKING WITH LIBRARIES
To help meet our mission to promote deaf culture, books and
literacy
through library programs and exhibits, the National Literary Society
of
the Deaf (NLSD) will have an exhibit (Table #233) during the annual
business meeting of the American Library Association, January 11 - 16,
2008. www.ala.org. The meeting will be held in Philadelphia, at the
Pennsylvania Convention Center (1101 Arch Street). Exhibits hours are
Friday, January 11 (5:30 pm - 7:30 pm); Saturday, January 12 and
Sunday, January 13 (9:00 am to 5:00pm) and Monday, January 14 (9:00 am
to 2:00 pm)
Jim Mallard is the new NLSD Exhibit Coordinator and he will be
assisted by Amy Bopp, President of Library Friends Section of the
National Association of the Deaf and Newby Ely, a member of Deaf
History International.
The exhibit theme will be GOT DEAF CULTURE @ YOUR LIBRARY? ASK A
LIBRARIAN!. This is a new series for 2008-2010 in which purpose is to
familiarize American libraries with the National Association of the
Deaf and ten other deaf-related membership organizations. If you plan
to be at the above convention, please stop by the NLSD table #233 and
ask about the new Series.
If you are unable to stop by but you want local deaf communities to be
aware of your library's interest in presenting deaf cultural programs
in 2008 or beyond, please check to make sure that your library is
