Spring 2008 Registration Information

To: All SLIS Students on campus, distance, and cohort students

Fr: Carol Williams, Student Services Manager

Students have been contacting the Student Services Office asking for

registration information for spring 2008 classes. The following

information should help you with the process:

Tuesday, Nov. 6 Graduate students pre-registration appointments

begin. Log in to VIP, click on the Academics tab, and then click on

Show Me Registration Appointment Times for Spring / May / Summer I /

Summer II / Fall to see your appointment date/time. You may register

any time on, or after, that date. If someone has been missed, e-mail

(slis_student_services@gwm.sc.edu), or phone our office and we will

request that the Registrar's Office post an appointment time. If you

would rather wait to register until Open Registration begins the next

week, that would be fine. Distance classes do not "fill up" as a rule.

Monday, Nov. 12 - Open Registration begins for graduate students.

You have plenty of time to register since classes begin January 14th.

Spring fee payment deadline is January 15.

ERMD Student Award

The ERMD Student Award recognizes a student who is especially interested in pursuing a career as an information professional dealing with environment and resource management issues. The award is $500.00, plus a $750 reimbursement award if the student comes to the SLA annual meeting in New Orleans. The student must be enrolled in an ALA accredited master's degree program. This award is meant to promote both current and future involvement in and commitment to the library and information science profession prior to, during, and after the master's program. To be considered for the award, a student must be an SLA member and write a 300-500 word essay describing his or her interest in the issues facing information professionals in the environment and natural resources fields. Essays should be labeled with the student's name, contact information, and educational institution. Deadline for receiving submissions is March 15, 2010.
